LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has donated MK50 million the Flames towards their participation at then ongoing 2025 Cosafa Cup in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
A statement from State House says the support follows a meeting the President had with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Chakwera wished the Malawi National Football Team all the best as they take on Lesotho in their first Group B match.
“During the meeting, His Excellency the President also accepted Mr. Haiya’s invitation for the President to serve as Patron for the Malawi Flames and Scorchers going forward, a role in which President Chakwera will lead and rally the nation in rendering moral, monetary, and material support for the two national teams,” reads the statement.
The Flames left the country on Wednesday for this year’s COSAFA Senior men’s championship.
Malawi has never won the cup since its inception in 1997.
