Chakwera appeals for support as he launches MCP campaign in Southern Region

CHIKWAKWA-(MANA)-President Lazarus Chakwera has launched the Malawi Congress Party campaign in the Southern Region with a call for peaceful political engagement and an appeal for continued support to advance ongoing development projects nationwide.

Speaking during the launch held at Ngabu Sports Club in Chikwawa on Friday, President Chakwera urged people in the region not to be misled by those claiming his government has neglected the Southern Region.

“I have confidence that I still have your support to continue with the development projects. In the 2020 elections, I got a total of 280,755 votes from this region despite others discouraging me that the Southern Region would not vote for someone from the Central Region,” added Chakwera.

He cited several initiatives implemented under his leadership, including the construction of health posts, infrastructure development at universities and technical colleges, and disbursement of National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans to farmers and small-scale business owners.

The President also outlined key issues from the Malawi Congress Partys 2025 manifesto, which include ensuring food security through the establishment of fertilizer manufacturing factories in the country and the creation of 750,000 jobs annually, translating to three million jobs by 2030.

Meanwhile, MCPs second Vice President and Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, commended President Chakwera for various development projects across the country.

“Vote for Chakwera in the upcoming elections on 16 September to ensure continued development,” she said.
