Chakwera assents six bills into law

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has assented six bills into law that were passed by Malawi Parliament during the last seating of his five years tenure in office.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 and signed by Presidential Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda, the exercise to assent to the six bills is in with Section 89 of the Malawi Constitution.

“His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, in exercise of the powers vested in him by Section 89 of the Constitution, has assented to the following bills: Bill No. 10 of 2025: International Development Association (Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation in Malawi (ASCENT MALAWI) Project Using Multiphase Programmatic Approach Programme (Authorization and Ratification); Bill No. 11 of 2025: Taxation (Amendment); Bill No. 12 of 2025: Value Added Tax Amendment); Bill No. 13 of 2025: Appropriation; Bill No. 14 of 2025: Supplementary Appropriation and Bill No. 19 of 2025: Foreign Exchange,” reads the statement in part.

This means the six bills come into law with immediate effect.
