Chakwera dates northern region varsity students

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday morning held talks with students from public and private universities, at Mzuzu State Lodge in Mzuzu City.

The students have been drawn from Mzuzu University (MZUNI), University of Livingstonia (UNILIA), Mzuzu, Rumphi, Chintheche, Phwezi, and Karonga Vocation, Technical and Teacher Training Colleges.

The interface gives the students a rare chance to directly present their grievances to the President and also share their thoughts on various issues impacting their education.

Since taking over the mantle of leadership, President Chakwera has invested heavily in young people, as a means of motivating them to take a leading role in advocating for, fostering, and implementing the country’s development blueprint – Malawi Vision 2063.

Recently, President Chakwera also engaged youths in the three cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu to elucidate matters raised on in his State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The Malawi leader also directed an upward adjustment of allowances for students in public universities from MK280,000 to MK560,000 as well as increasing the number of beneficiaries.

The President has also created a dedicated Ministry of Higher Education to promptly respond to students concerns in times of need.

Chakwera has also used his Presidential Charity Golf Initiative that has been running for the past two years to help source funds for needy and under-privileged students in institutions of higher learning country-wide.
