Chakwera grooming son Nick for MCP leadership

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Leader of Mass Movement for Economic Revolution who is also Secretary General for Malawi First Comrade Redson Munlo, has alleged that President Lazarus Chakwera is grooming his son Pastor Nick Chakwera to take over the leadership of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Munlo said even some MCP members have also noted with great concern that President Chakwera is working silently to trim the MCP to be a family party advising them to keep their eyes wide awake for the MCP not to die.

He said MCP is one of the continental political parties not only in Malawi but Africa as a whole and is more like the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa and Chama Chamapinduzi (CCM) of Tanzania, no one can trim it to a family party.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Munlo has advised Chakwera to leave the MCP alone saying before him there were others who had left it in the same way the party is.

Munlo said Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Gwanda Chakuamba Phiri, and John Zenasi Ungapake Tembo [JZU] had children “but at no time did they expose them to the public and if the public got to know them, it was after their terms of office were over”.

He has appealed to MCP youth saying not to tolerate Chakwera’s move by trimming the party into a family political party for his son Nickson to take over.

“We are watching you, you have the right to position your son for any position but to the MCP, we say ‘’no’’ MCP will never be a family Party, it fought for independence and freedom in Malawi,” said Munlo.

During the launch of the book authored by Pastor Nick Chakwera ‘’Religion and Politics,’’ Munlo said he was shocked with Chakwera’s son was given the podium to address the nation by commenting on numerous social-economic challenges the country is sailing through including the leadership of his father.

Chakwera’s son Nick’s book launch turned into a state function defeating the separation of a private matter and public event at the expense of hard-earned taxpayers’ money.
