Chakwera lauds Karonga residents for MCP support

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has expressed his gratitude to the people of Karonga for their unwavering support of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) over the years.

Speaking at Mwenitete Trade Centre on the campaign trail, Chakwera highlighted his administration’s efforts to accelerate development projects in the district while providing relief to communities affected by annual disasters.

“We have inaugurated the Kayelekera Uranium Mine under new management, and this time, arrangements have been made to ensure the people of Karonga truly benefit,” Chakwera said, adding that,”A majority of jobs at the mine will go to locals, while surrounding businesses are set to gain from increased activity.”

The President also emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting communities from perennial flooding, citing the construction of a dyke on the Rukuru River as a significant achievement.

The dyke, according to Chakwera, will help safeguard livelihoods and development in the area. “My government constructed a dyke on the Rukuru River to protect communities from perennial flooding, a problem that has been affecting livelihoods and development in the area,” he said.

Chakwera urged the people of Karonga to vote for MCP in the September 16 General Election, promising continued progress in the area under his leadership and that of parliamentary candidate Vitumbiko Mumba.

Senior Chief Kilupula praised Chakwera’s administration, saying “Karonga has seen remarkable transformation under his tenure,” Senior Chief Kilupula said, adding, “I advise the President not to be shaken by social media negativity and assure him of his people’s vote.” With the support of the chief and the community, Chakwera’s message resonated with the audience, emphasizing the importance of continued development and progress in the district.

As the election season heats up, the MCP’s efforts to engage with local leaders and communities are likely to play a significant role in shaping the outcome of the polls.

Chakwera’s visit to Karonga underscores the party’s commitment to the region and its people, highlighting the administration’s achievements and future plans for the area.
