Chakwera nods to Youth Manifesto for self-reliant

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera on Monday, July 21, 2025 endorsed Youth Manifesto while emphasising for developing a self-reliant Malawi.

Chakwera who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Presidential candidate has called for increased youth participation in various roles.

Speaking during the presentation of the national youth manifesto at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, The Malawi leader stated that young people contribute significantly through innovation, yet they receive less recognition.

“As government, we are committed to continuing collaboration and engagement with youths to ensure shared ideas and aspirations, so we can transform Malawi together, aligning with Vision 2063,” he added.

Chakwera therefore urged youths to maintain regular dialogue with him, stating that it enhances transparency and accountability among the people.

In her remarks, National Coordinator of the Youth Decide Campaign, Commissioner Mwandila Theu, expressed gratitude to the government for making progress in empowering youths across the country.

She pointed out increases in access to loans and grants for students, as well as improved employment rates among young people.

Echoing the same, Executive Director of the National Youth Council of Malawi, Rex Chapota, thanked the president for demonstrating significant milestones related to youth issues and for enabling young people to engage directly with him.

The national youth manifesto was launched on 25 June during the national youth summit in Lilongwe.

The MCP launched its manifesto and campaign on Saturday in Lilongwe with one of its key promises being the inclusion of young leaders in the cabinet, as youths are considered not just the future, but the present.

The manifesto also commits to financial inclusion for youths and women through a dedicated Youth and Women Bank.
