CHIKWAWA-(MANA)-President Lazarus Chakwera has pledged to construct a road to link Chapananga- Chikwawa with Thambani-Mwanza, Neno and Ntcheu and that the proposed road will be named in honour of Sidik Mia.
Chakwera made the pledge at Kakoma Trading Centre in Chikwawa on Wednesday during a whistle-stop tour, saying good roads facilitate more developments.
“We know the importance of a good road and this is why we want to construct this road to connect Thambani-Mwanza, Neno and Ntcheu,” the President added.
The President, who began his campaign tour of the Lower Shire on Tuesday, said the government will engage a competent contractor to construct durable roads, as he observed that some contractors embark on road projects without proper and complete drawings, a practice that compromises standards.
“We are doing things the right way, and everything is already in place now. The proposed road is even included in our national budget, and once completed, we will name it after the late Sidik Mia to honour him,” he said.
Senior Chief Chapananga bemoaned bad roads in his area, saying poor road conditions affect service delivery and travelling to the hospital and other places that offer essential services becomes a challenge.
He however, expressed gratitude for numerous development projects that the Chakwera-led government implemented in his area, such as schools and health facilities.
