SALIMA-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transform Chipoka in Salima District into a secondary city, complete with functional railway and water transport systems, as part of efforts to boost business activities in the area.
Speaking on Friday at Chipoka Ginnery in the area of Senior Chief Ndindi, President Chakwera said the vision to make Chipoka a vibrant economic hub was first conceived by Malawi’s founding president but was never fully realized.
“I remember well that this area was once a harbor of business where ships docked and various enterprises thrived.
“I still hold the vision of restoring that bringing passenger trains, ships docking with goods, and constructing good roads,” said Chakwera.
He revealed that a German company has already been identified to implement the project, with all paperwork and a roadmap for construction already completed.
Chakwera further urged Malawians to unite in supporting development initiatives that his administration is implementing across the country, saying if re-elected, he will accelerate development and transform lives of Malawians.
Speaking on behalf of the late Senior Chief Ndindi, Senior Chief Kambwiri commended the government for a number development projects in his area.
He also hailed government for farmers loans used to venture into irrigation farming thereby addressing hunger.
