BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to reviving Nsanje District’s township status, citing the ongoing railway rehabilitation project as a key driver of economic growth.
Speaking at Nsanje Boma ahead of the September 16 polls, Chakwera highlighted the district’s potential, noting that the railway line will bring numerous economic opportunities.
“The rehabilitation of the railway line will restore Nsanje’s township status, unlocking economic opportunities for the district and the country at large,” Chakwera said.
He also announced that his government will continue to provide loans to small-scale business owners through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF).
Senior Chief Chimombo praised President Chakwera for his development initiatives, saying the railway project will benefit generations to come and enhance economic opportunities in Nsanje and Malawi.
Chimombo also commended the President for promoting primary school teachers.
However, Chakwera expressed disappointment at the low turnout, stating he had expected a larger crowd. Despite this, he remains committed to implementing projects that will boost the local economy.
Chakwera even took a tour of the railway project, boarding a train coach as part of his inspection.
