LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)- Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera on Monday, July 6, 2020 pledged to reduce presidential powers and answer questions in Parliament.
President Chakwera also promised the nation to consult the leader of opposition every three months and operationalize the Access Information Bill.
He also saluted Vice President, Saulos Chilima for his role in the change that has happened.
However, in his inaugural speech at Kamuzu Barracks in the capital Lilongwe, President Chakwera said generation must accomplish the goal of economic liberation which has reduced the country for the past 26 years.
He says his generation has left the country in ruins and “Our first touch is to clear the rubble”.
He said the country must cheer the rubble of corruption, donor dependency, impunity, division, negativity, unprofessionalism, and incompetence.
Chakwera added that his desire is to heal the fractured Nation which will come with pain.
“In this transaction, we are each a patient with a bone to be straightened. We are each apart of the problems,” He said.
He continued to say there cannot be a new Malawi if the only people seemed guilty of breaking the country are the ones who lost the election.
He said there must be a collective responsibility in fixing the countrys problems.
“Stop seeing yourself as a job seeker, start seeing yourself as a job creator,” Chakwera said tracing on the 1 Million jobs for the youths.
Chakwera therefore saluted to subsequent re-election including the court witnesses, army, police, campaign funders, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), society, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Journalists.
