By George Mponda

KARONGA-(MANA)-President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has urged the youth in the country to have confidence in government that it will safeguarding their interests, saying young people remain central to Malawis socio-economic transformation agenda.

Speaking on the campaign trail at Pusi in Karonga District on Monday, Chakwera said the youth should not only be assured of opportunities but also feel loved and valued in the spaces they work.

“I am standing with Vitumbiko Mumba as my running-mate because of his youthfulness and energy to deliver results. When my government came into office, we abolished the quota system which discriminated against students from the northern region. We want people to vote for MCP on September 16 so that we continue to develop the nation without discrimination,” he said.

On his part, aspiring Malawi Congre Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Karonga Songwe Constituency, Mungasurwa Mwambande said the people of Karonga are ready to vote for President Chakwera due to the tangible development projects being implemented in the district.

Mwambande cited the construction of bridges on feeder roads in Ighembe and the rehabilitation of Lufirya Irrigation Scheme as some of the notable projects.

“The irrigation scheme has boosted rice production and improved the livelihoods of farmers. These developments show that MCP under President Chakwera is delivering on its promises,” he said.

Mwambande pledged to work closely with the MCP-led government to ensure that more infrastructure and agricultural projects are implemented in the area, saying the September 16 vote is an opportunity for Karonga to develop further.
