LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera on Friday evening presided over the grand finale of the Dolo Amavotera Chakwera music challenge at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, awarding MK5 million each to five winners drawn from different music genres.
The event, organised by the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), aimed at promoting youthful talent and encouraging creative political participation through music.
A total of 220 songs were submitted nationwide under the theme Dolo Amavotera Chakwera, with 14 finalists performing in genres including Amapiano, Hip Hop, local reggae, and other contemporary styles.
Speaking during the ceremony, MCP Youth Director, Steve Malondela, hailed President Chakwera for his unwavering commitment to empowering young people.
“You are a leader who has always been committed to inclusivity by empowering the youth to unlock their potential through entrepreneurship and by giving them space in cabinet representation,” said Malondela.
He described the appointment of Vitumbiko Mumba as Chakweras running mate in the forthcoming elections as a strong indication of the Presidents desire to work with young people.
“You have shown love to the youth by choosing a running mate who is youthful; We urge all young people to rally behind you and vote for you,” Malondela added.
One of the winners, Emmanuel Harry, expressed his appreciation for the platform, saying it had given upcoming artists unprecedented exposure.
“We thank the President for this great opportunity. It has shown that he is eager to work with the youth. For the first time in the history of Malawi presidents, such a big show has been organised for us upcoming artists and the youth in general,” Harry said.
The event, which celebrated creativity, talent, and youthful energy, ended with electrifying live performances from the finalists.
