
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse administration is slowly losing gripe of the economy as there is a shortage of fuel in several areas across Malawi.
Some filling station workers are seen idling in various service stations since last had the commodity on Monday.
Maravi Post spot check in some filling stations across the country show no fuel in filling stations.
For instance, Zomba run out of petrol on Monday, January 3, 2022 that Central Total Filling Station, Zomba Universal Filling Station and Engen Filling Station have revealed that the three filling stations are yet to have Petrol.
Fuel stock-outs have also been reported in Lilongwe at city center, Area 18, Area 4 and Area 6 as well as at filling stations in Mzuzu.
Long queues of vehicles, motorcycles and people carrying jerrycans have been observed in filing stations that still have fuel.
Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA)’s spokesperson Fitina Khonje however assured the nation of enough fuel in Malawi.
Khonje attributed the scarcity in some pump stations to logistical challenges.
She disclosed that MERA has engaged fuel importers and some oil marketing companies over the issue.
Malawi also experienced a fuel shortage due to insufficient of forex as reserves have been depleted.
