Chakwera’s public confession-“I don’t refuse to accept failure”

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-In a rare moment of candour, President Lazarus Chakwera made a public confession during a live televised address that has sparked both debate and reflection across Malawi.

Speaking to a crowd at Chigwere Trading Centre in Nkhatabay on Friday, August 8, 2025, Chakwera stated, “I don’t refuse to accept failure but I’m asking you to view what I did on 16 September 2025.”

The President’s remarks came amid mounting criticism over his administration’s handling of the economy, governance challenges, and unfulfilled promises made during his campaign.

Observers note that Chakwera’s tone suggested both humility and a plea for fair judgment from the Malawian public as the country gears up for a pivotal general election in 2025.

His mention of the upcoming date, September 16, 2025, hints at an anticipated development or announcement that the President believes will shift public perception in his favour.

Many in the crowd at Chigwere Trading Centre appeared surprised by the statement, with some applauding the President’s honesty while others remained sceptical about the government’s ability to turn things around.

Political analysts have described the statement as a “strategic emotional appeal” to reconnect with voters in a region that has shown signs of political fatigue and frustration.

Chakwera’s visit to Nkhatabay is part of a broader campaign effort to rally support in northern Malawi, where opposition voices have grown increasingly vocal in recent months.

While it remains to be seen what exactly will unfold on September 16, the President’s confession has certainly reignited public discourse about leadership, accountability, and the future direction of the country.

As the countdown to the 2025 general election continues, all eyes will be on Chakwera to see whether his bold words at Chigwere will be matched by decisive action.
