BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s stolen red carpet has been recovered and Malawi Police Service (MPS) has arrested two people over the matter.
The suspects identified as Lino Richard and Jonasi Harold, both 20, from Laundi Village in Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza are suspected of having stolen the carpet and tent along the Zalewa-Mwanza Road on the night of January 24, 2024.
A statement from National Police Headquarters says the duo committed the crime when the vehicle carrying the items was on its way to Mwanza for official duties.
A presidential red carpet and a tent were stolen last night along Zalewa- Mwanza road as the items were being moved to Mwanza where President Lazarus Chakwera has a public event tomorrow, Friday.
President Chakwera will be in the district for the ground-breaking of the construction of Mwanza Stadium, as well as inspect the newly constructed Mwanza police officers’ houses.
