LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Senior Chief Chadza of Lilongwe says plans are at an advanced stage to combine the two Chewa groupings.

The groupings including Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO) and Bwalo la Chewa Foundation (BOLA-CEFO) into one strong and united Chewa tribe.

Chief Chadza who is also mediation team chairperson for two Chewa groupings observes that the camps are from one family of Nyangu at Mankhamba headquarters and have one common goal of preserving and promote the Chewa culture in Malawi.

The two Chewa groupings besides promoting the aspirations of all the Chewas in Malawi have been at loggerheads.

CHEFO reports to Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi of Zambia while Bwalo la Chewa talks to Paramount Chief Lundu of Malawi.

The centre of confrontation has been holding of Kulamba ceremonies at Mkaika in Eastern Province of Chipata, Zambia where Malawi Chewa chiefs go with their treasures to present it to Paramount Chief Gawa Undi of Zambia.

However, Bwalo la Chewa Foundation has a different view of holding own Kulamba ceremonies on rotational basis in Chewa dominated districts across the country.

The two camps are reportedly to have discussed the matter and reached a consensus agreement.

Senior Chief Chadza observes that the two Chewa groupings agreed to work together for the unity of purpose.

“What now remains, is sharing of projects and positions of office bearers because each of the grouping has its own working structure.

“Each of the Chewa grouping, CHEFO and Bwalo la Chewa was working independently from the other, there is a great need to share positions of office bearers,’’ said Chief Chadza.

Chadza admitted that it has taken long without meeting of the two groupings attributing to funding crippling to finalize the resolutions reached.

He said they are banking on well-wishers to come in and support the meeting observing that there are Chewa chiefs across the country and these need travel expenses.

Bwalo la Chewa Foundation’s National Executive Director, Reverend Flywell Somanje, said Chewas in Malawi have a strong desire to see to it that the two camps are working together as one.

Reverend Somanje said unity which has been lacking among the Chewas will now be cemented with them all flying the Chewa flag as one with Paramount Chief.
