Chief Chanthunya says community radio vital for news dissemination

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Traditional Authority Chanthunya of Balaka district says community radio stations are vital in disseminating developmental messages to local masses easily.

Chief Chanthunya observed that some national radios do not reach out to other areas making the communities being denied access to information.

He says the coming in of Balaka Community radio station will reach out to every part of the district.

“People will get messages in vernacular language in so doing, developmental messages will reach out to every household in the district,’’ said Chamthunya.

Chief Chanthunya was speaking at a function when accepting the role of patron for Balaka community radio station which is expected to hit the airwaves soon.

Director of Operations and Relations at Balaka Community radio station, Francis Biliat, said chiefs are crucial in leadership of the society.

Biliati says chiefs will play a bigger role to guide management in the running affairs of the radio to meet the desired needs of the communities.

Plans of having Balaka community radio station started on August 18, 2019 as currently, Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has granted a Geographical Broadcasting Licence to the radio.
