BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—As results for fresh presidential election are pouring in from different districts, it is clear that the alliance of Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Saulos Klaus Chilima of UTM has served the intended purpose.

In the past elections, MCP has been struggling to penetrate into the northern region which in 2019 appeared to be pro UTM with Chakwera and Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) sharing the leftovers.

But according to unofficial results in some districts in the north, MCP has done well, beating incumbent President  Mutharika with a resounding landslide.

For instance, in  Likoma MCP has 2981 votes while DPP has 1690 votes; in Rumphi MCP 57 517  WHILE DPP has amassed 8909.

As MCP is performing well in the north, their grip on central region has been shaken but rather extending it further.

in the southern and eastern region, DPP is performing extremely well. However, there is an improvement on the part of Malawi Congress Party as they are now able to get some tangible votes in some selected districts.
