The Chinese government has donated assorted security equipment worth over K200 million to the Malawi Police Service.

The items include binoculars, gas masks, handcuffs,  bulletproof vests, shields, helmets, leg and arm amours, shock baton sticks and 300 tents.

Receiving the donation in Lilongwe, Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda described the donation as timely, saying the security agency will be using the items in protecting people as well as businesses which both locals and foreigners are legitimately investing in the country.

“The policing equipment will also go a long way in addressing some of the challenges the Malawi Police Service has been facing.

“We are together building and strengthening our security systems in the administration of His Excellency President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera who values national security as the pillar for development,” said Chimwendo Banda.

The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi His Excellency Liu Hongyang handed the equipment at Police Headquarters in Malawi’s administrative capital.
