Churches respond to floods victims as Nkhoma Synod donates items worthy MK17m

In response towards the call needed for helping floods victims, Nkhoma Synod CCAP has donated foods, utensils, blankets, clothes, sanitary materials worthy MK17 million.

Speaking on Tuesday at Lilongwe CCAP Church when the church was handing over the items to World Vision Malawi which has been entrusted to deliver the items to the floods victims, Dr Chantha Msangambe, Nkhoma Synod moderator said the church was responding to the calls as those affected were children of God hence the support.

Reverend Msangambe said the support was not only from the call from Council of Churches response to floods but also based on biblical mandate the church was obligated towards its flock.

“The items will go along way to assist our brothers and sisters as their sufferings might be eased in one way of another. Thus, the church will still mobilise the resources towards the course till the post flooding. We are planning to assist these families with farn inputs for irrigation farming hence our target to source MK20million for the campaign”, said Dr Msangambe.

He therefore appealed to all Malawians to patronise the SMS campaign which was on Airtel And TNM whereby subsribers are requested to send the word PEPANI to 50121 which charges MK100 as contribution towards the course.

After receiving the items, World Vision Malawi Director, Robert Kisyula said he was delighted the trust churches have had in his organisation that the items would be deliverd to the intended beneficiaries.

“We feel humbled for the trust churches have in us to deliver these items. With the response shown so far, its an indication that Malawians are one regardless of differences in religion, tribe, region, as this has to be promoted at all cost”, delighted Kisyula.

He said his organisation expects US$ 11 million (MK5.5 billion)  as the projection towards the course as so far for the first month the organisation has managed to raise US$ 2 million.
