Court convicts two Chinese, Malawians for wildlife crimes

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday convicted two Chinese nationals and two Malawians for Illegally possessing and dealing in wildlife products contrary to the National Parks and Wildlife Act.

The accused persons who were arrested on December 17 2017 are: Li Hao Yuan male (28), Zhang Hua (42), Paul Mangwe (32) and Tsogolani Samson  (32) for possession of rhino horn, ivory, pangolin, hippo teeth, and firearms.

Senior Resident Magistrate Chisomo Msokera has however set October 21 this year for hearing on sentencing.

The Malawian nationals; Mangwe and Samson will still remain remanded on bail.

The Chinese nationals; Hao Yuan and Mrs Zhang Hua Qin – were originally remanded on bail. 

However they are now on remand in custody awaiting sentence on other charges of wildlife trafficking (case 492/19).
