LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Blue Eagles Reserve football team has extended their Centre FAM Moto division one league lead on the summit after thumping Salima Sparrows 5-0 at home, ADL ground in Lilongwe on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The young cops have now opened a 7- point gap on the ladder against second placed, Creck Sporting club reserve.
Eagles broke the dead lock in 39th minute in the first half through Madalitso Khamula. Innocent Chauluka scored Eagle’s early goal in the second half in the 48th minute before captain Alexander Chigawa stretched the lead in 68th minute.
As the visitors thought they would pull back, it wasn’t to be as James Stambuli added salt on their wounds with the fourth goal in 79th minute and few minutes later Ashley Chimseu also added the ice on the cake as he netted the fifth goal in 84th minute for the match to end 5-0.
James Stambuli extended the goal tally to nine (9) as team’s top goal scorer who is followed by Ashley Chimseu who got 7 and Webster Mzunda has 5.
Following the victory, Blue Eagles has now increased their chances of winning the championship having accumulated 46 points from 21 games,
The team scored 41 goals and conceded 15 with a goal difference of +26.
Since the campaign the young cops have suffered three defeats over Kalembelembe, TNM Stars and Play Football Malawi.
Creck Sporting reserve missed a chance of being the champions even if they win their last two games.
The area 36 based side sits on second place with 39 points from 20 games. Their maximum points if they are to win their last games will be 45.
Thus far the only team which can challenge the championship against the leaders, Eagles Reserve is third placed, Green Rangers who have 39 points from 19 games.
On Sunday the team entertains Kalembelembe which has proved to be good against the top three teams.
A win on Sunday will take a tally of their points to 42 and their maximum points if they can manage to win all the remaining games will be 48.
The team is hoping that they defeat Eagles in their last game.
Play Football Malawi’ striker Charles Mbewe lead the top goal scorer’s chart with 22 goals.
He extended the tally on Saturday as he was on target in his team’s 1-1 draw against Civil Service United Reserve.
Other Saturday results, Make Sure 1-2 TN Stars, Civo reserve 1-1 Play Football MW. Sunday fixtures, Balang’ombe Real Bombers against Obings Pirates, Kalembelembe FC up against Green Rangers as Make Sure Pirates travel to Pyramid.
The four teams which will finish in top four by the end of the season are automatically qualify into the Central region Football Association (CRFA) Chipiku Stores Premier division league next season.
