A 48 year old woman, Towera Phiri has been killed by a crocodile at Limphasa River in Nkhata Bay district, Police has said.
According to Nkhata Bay Police Spokesperson Sergeant Ignitous Esau, on Wednesday the deceased was washing dishes at Limphasa River at around 6:30 in the evening.
“As she was washing her dishes she was suddenly caught by a crocodile that drew her to unknown place,” Sergeant Esau narrated.
Sergeant Esau further explained that communities started searching, until Thursday at around 10 o’clock at night, when the communities found the body but without a leg and arm.
Post mortem conducted on the site revealed that death was due to suffocation.
Sergeant Esau then asked communities to refrain from swimming and washing dishes in the rivers which are now full and in some cases infested with crocodiles.
Crocodiles kill a lot people especially in rain season when despite the rivers being full, the waters are usually muddy such that people have to be cautious all the times.
Mrs. Towera Phiri came from Chankhu village, TA Timbiri in Nkhata Bay District.
