Civil Society Organisations have asked Malawi Police Services to investigate more and follow up on all allegations which people caught in albino body parts trade are revealing.

Chairperson of the coalition, Edward Chileka Banda was speaking in Lilongwe during the launch of action week against killing of Albinos in Malawi.

Banda asked for capital punishment on all people convicted of the albino trade cases.

“Arrest superstitious customers of charms that are hiring thugs to kill people with albinism and that serious investigations must invade the black market of these killings.” Said Chileka.

Banda said lenient sentence which the convicts receive cannot stop them from committing other offences in the future.

“We are asking Government to   appeal against all cases, which it lost

and secure convictions for all the cases so that a message is sent to these killers,” Banda said.

Chileka asked judiciary to scrap off bail conditions on people arrested of selling Albino body parts.

Another human rights activist Leon Matanda said there is need for the State review bail conditions on all people involved in such trade.

“By virtue of various regional continental and Global Legal Instruments which Malawi makes commitment to, and more precisely the Republic of Malawi constitution, the Government has a formal obligation and responsibility to promote and protect fundamental rights and freedoms which are guaranteed there in without any form of prejudice,” Said Matanda.

Currently, 17 people with albinism have been killed. Matanda said Action Week which will be held from 23-27 May 2016 will lobby for more decisive actions to stop the barbaric killings of fellow human beings for superstitions.

Louisa Kwapata who is another human rights advocate said during the week Citizens are asked to take actions against the killing of Albinos.

Ms Kwapata said its time that Malawi as a country should work up and stand in unity and declare war against all those involved in this barbaric trade.

During the week citizens are to break the silence by reporting suspects to Police through use of social media and other mode of communication.

Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi President Boniface Massah has since commended the effort done by the CSOs.

Massah asked the media to write positive stories of people living with Albinism.
