BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dalitso Kabambe has pledged to turn around the country’s economy, starting from day one in office.
Addressing a rally at Bangwe Desert Ground in Blantyre on Sunday, Kabambe took aim at President Chakwera’s leadership, arguing that it has hindered Blantyre’s economic growth by relocating key institutions to Lilongwe.
The former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM ) governor laid out his vision for a UTM-led government, promising to inject 500 billion Kwacha annually into industrialization efforts.
He said his plans also include expanding the subsidy program to support more farmers, with the ultimate goal of eradicating hunger.
Additionally, Kabambe vowed to empower local councils with 100 billion Kwacha for development projects, ensuring fair prices for farmers’ produce to protect their livelihoods.
As a seasoned economist,Kabambe has a track record of sound monetary and fiscal policies, having reduced Malawi’s inflation rate from 21.4% in 2012 to 12.6% in 2016.
His leadership and expertise may be just what Malawi needs to revitalize its economy.
