DEDZA-(MaraviPost)-With the resumption of porridge in the school feeding program, education authorities in Dedza have challenged communities in the district to take a leading role in supporting schools with necessary equipment in a bid to ensure smooth operation of the program.
Dedza School Health and Nutrition coordinator McDevix Kadya was speaking whilst commenting on concerns that the government program might be affected by lack of cooking materials following the suspension of porridge two years ago due to COVID-19.

He emphasised on the need for surrounding community members to be vigilant in ensuring that the schools are supplied with necessary equipment.
“It is true that learners in different schools in the district will now be eating porridge after a year long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is a welcome development so I would urge people surrounding home grown schools to be on the forefront in making sure that,” said Kadya.
He has since expressed optimism that the program will continue registering remarkable outcome as some of their implementing partners have already supplied cooking equipment to schools which provide resources for themselves.
“We are glad that our partner World Food Program (WFP) has come to our rescue by providing additional feeding equipment like pots, plates and others to schools whose materials were damaged or lost,” added Kadya.
With a total of 248 primary schools in the district, three partners; World Food Program (WFP), Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) and Mary’s Meals are pumping in funds to complement government’s efforts in ensuring smooth operation of the program.
