In an effort to rejuvenate education standards of Dedza Secondary School which has produced imminent citizens in the country including the current President Peter Munthalika, former students to school are set to establish the legally bounded network.
This comes barely three years after former students of the school have been interacting on Face book which has necessitated formalization of the network as Dedza Secondary School Aluminates Association set to be launched on March 28, 2015 at the school’s campus.
Disclosing this in an interview, Banks Kachinda, the event coordinator, said formalization of the network would instill confidence among former students of the school who have been willing to help in improving the living standards of education of the school which according to him has gone down that require urgent support.
“We have been interacting on Face book for almost three years. The time has ripe for settlement hence reasons for the establishment of the legally bounded body as we have a lawyer who once learned at this school to produce a white paper on how best this network can work perfectly”, says Kachinda.
Kachinda said the establishment of the network would able to bring former students of the school to set agendas which might help to improve education standards of the school by renovating and constructing structures, beefing up the library with books, sponsoring outstanding student enrolled in various universities among others.
“Dedza Secondary School is the oldest and has produced productive citizens which needed for us to pay back to their mother hence the calling for the network. We want improve the school’s standards with the little we have as it has made us where we are”, explains Kachinda, the former student of the school himself who is running an electronic firm in Lilongwe.
When asked if the coordinating team of the event has engaged the President Peter Munthalika as an alumina to the school, Kachinda said they didn’t want to politicize the event but rather formalizing it in an objective manner.
“We haven’t yet engaged the President’s office on this matter despite being a former student of the school. We didn’t want politicize the whole event but if he wishes to join us on the day or later, he is welcome, nothing is going to stop him supporting his own school”, says Kachinda.
Dedza Secondary School was opened in 1957 by the late former President Kamuzu Banda and it has produced very prominent figures.
