The much awaited Dedza Government Secondary School (DEGOSS) Aluminates Association has been established to revamp education standards as two needy students got scholarship and made spiritual books, textbooks and cash donations.
The development comes barely two years after former students of the school have been interacting on Face book to explore ways of ploughing back the school’s its old academic excellence.
DEGOSS Aluminates Association got the mandate on Saturday at the school’s campus in Dedza which among other things ushered interim committee and made spiritual books ( Islamic books), text books and cash donation and also sponsoring two needy student for four years as to kick start its objectives of rejuvenating the school’s academic reputation.
Speaking in an interview, Haswell Solomon, the newly elected president of the grouping expressed gratitude on the establishment of the association saying would bring confidence from the public and those in the diasporas on its objectives towards the school.
“What started as a social network group, the dream has come true into a full-fledged grouping. This will bring confidence and trust from the public and fellow students in the diasporas to come forthwith with much support for the school which has gone down academically and dilapidated of the infrastructures”, said Solomon who also once served as head boy.
He said the group would blend the school’s strategic plan into a practical and oriented tool to turn the school into formidable state by bringing former students on board for action.
“It feels pain to see the school which has produced the cream of individuals in the country being in this pathetic state. This is the time to pay back to our mother school what was sown in us. Therefore, its my appeal to all former students to join us in this noble course”, urges Solomon.
In his remarks, Joseph Chiwoza, the school’s head teacher minced his words saying challenges the school was facing would be dealt drastically as former students appreciated its current status which needs urged support.
“I am over the moon for the establishment of the grouping especially this time the school needed urgent support; financially , materially and spiritually which will help in restoring its old academic excellence of producing productive citizens. Let me assure the group that the support provided on the needy students , books and cash donation will be used for the intended purposes. Its in this regarding, I am also urging other former students to avail themselves for this noble course”, appeals Chiwoza.
The interim leadership of the grouping comprises of 16 individuals which has been mandated to execute activities toward its legal registration as follows, Haswell Solomon as the President whose deputy is Dan Makata, Dalitso Kubalasa (MEJN) is the Secretary General deputized by Mr.Dyetseni, while Banks Kachinda is the Treasure General whose vice is Mr. Ngola, Dr, Mwai Makoka (CHAM’s CEO) is the Spokes person deputized by Dan Kamoto ( Roads Authority) while Dan Kuwali is leads the legal council such that regional committees are headed by Mr. Hahome ( South), Dr. Thabbie Chilongo ( Central) and Assan Phiri ( North) while ex-officials includes School’s headteacher, Boarding master and PTA Chairperson.
Dedza Government Secondary School opened its doors in 1951 and has a capacity of 600 students , and it remains one of oldest school with academic excellence.
