Derby generates MK90 Million plus as Bullets humiliate Wanderers: 2026/27 FDH Bank Premiership

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)- Blantyre derby between Mighty Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets generated a gross collection of K90.8 million, making it one of the biggest earning football matches in Malawi 2026/27season.

According to the Super League of Malawi official gross collection sheet summary released after the match, the game realized a matchday collection of K42,333,900, with the total gross revenue standing at K90,821,900.

However, several operational costs were deducted before the final distribution of the proceeds. The expenses included payments to the cashiering firm amounting to K6.3 million, police security at K3.3 million, private security at K2 million and stewards who received K1.8 million.

Other expenses included tickets printing at K6 million, network services at K1.2 million, protocol expenses at K460,000, promotion costs at K730,000, fire services at K410,000, wrist bands at K590,000, and K370,000 for chair hire.

The total expenditure for the blockbuster encounter reached K24,251,273, leaving a net collection of K66,570,627.

From the net revenue, a 25 percent ground levy amounting to K16.6 million was deducted while the Malawi National Council of Sports received K3.3 million.

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) got K6.6 million, with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) receiving K3.3 million.

The remaining balance was shared equally between the two giants of Malawian football, with each team pocketing K18.3 million.

Meanwhile, sports analyst Ibrahim Phiri described the figures as surprisingly low considering the huge turnout witnessed at the stadium during the derby.

Phiri argued that the amount collected does not match the number of supporters who attended the match, especially considering that open stand tickets were selling at K10,000 each.

He further claimed that some supporters allegedly gained unauthorized entry into the stadium after sections of the perimeter wire fence were reportedly cut, a development he believes contributed to the lower than expected revenue.

On the pitch, Bullets finally ended their difficult run against their old rivals after securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wanderers in Lilongwe.

Goals from Blessings Mpokera and Maxwell Gastin Phodo handed Bullets maximum points, while Promise Kamwendo scored the lone goal for Wanderers.
