Design Outreach donates Covid-19 PPEs to Nthambi children care centre

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Design Outreach, a US-based non-profit humanitarian engineering organization that uses technologies to change the lives of people on Saturday, March 20, 2021 donated Covid-19 Preventive and Protective Equipment (PPEs) to Lilongwe’s Day Care and Orphanage organisation, Nthambi.

Donated PPEs including facemasks, soap, hand washing pail target communities surrounding the care centre’s for Covid fight.

Dickson Wandawanda, Design Outreach’s Life Pump Technician said donation aims to respond to government call towards fight against Covid-19.

Wandawanda therefore assured the nation of its charity work to reach more vulnerable groups.

“We will continue to reach vulnerable groups in our society with free services including water but when the need comes such as Covid we will always come in for support,” he said.

Nthambi’s Founder and Board of Trustee Esau Mbukwa lauded Design Outreach for timely support saying the donation will go a long way to help communities.

Mbukwa said the care centre still remains to reach more children but space and water access are among challenges hampering the facility’s vision.

“This is a family initiative as we use our own resources to look after the kids. We need more support including fencing, more space for the school and water that reach more vulnerable children.

“We therefore commend Design Outreach for the PPEs donation which will be distributed to communities surrounding the care centre,” says Mbukwa.

On January 9, 2021 graduated its first cohort of pupils to be enrolled into primary school since its inception in 2019.

Design Outreach is a US-based non-profit humanitarian engineering organization that uses technologies to change the lives of people.

Among its other renovations is the ‘life pump’ which provides clean drinking water to communities for a time span of over 30 years.

Through the partnership with other stakeholders, design outreach aims at providing 3,000 Life Pumps in Malawi by 2030 to serve an estimated 1,500,000 people.
