Police at Mponela in Dowa have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly committing an offence of incest.
The suspect is Fred Kamchonjo of Chiganda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponela in Dowa District.
The man is alleged to have committed the offence from 2018 to 2020 at Chiganda Village.
It is reported that the victim (name withheld) is a second born to the suspect and in 2018 he (suspect) started defiling the victim wherever her mother had gone to do other errands and all this has been taking place in the suspect’s house.
Following the defilement, the victim fell pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl in October 2018. In February this year, the victim got married at Gwani Village where she has been staying with her husband.
According to deputy spokesperson of Mponela Police, Sergeant Macpatson Msadala, the suspect is alleged to have taken the victim to Chiganda Village and upon arrival, the suspect forced her to sleep with him which indeed took place.
Later the victim went back to her husband where she stay until on April 26 2020 when the suspect came to her house and ordered her to follow him and upon arrival at Chiganda Village, the suspect started demanding to have sex with her daughter of which the victim denied.
Following the incident, the victim decided to report the matter to police on the behaviour of her biological father and this led to the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer charges of incest contrary to Section 158 of the Penal Code.
