DPP calls on Chakwera’s Tonse Govt to acknowledge previous projects

By Twink Jones Gadama

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In the world of politics, there is often a fine line between taking credit for projects and acknowledging the hard work of others.

This debate has once again surfaced in Malawi, with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader in Parliament Mary Navicha calling on the Tonse Alliance government to give credit where it’s due for projects initiated by the previous regime.

The controversy erupted during a session in Parliament when Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Richard Chimwendo Banda praised the current government for changing the face of Zomba City and highlighted the progress on Domasi Hospital as one of the projects being implemented by the Tonse Alliance government.

However, Navicha quickly pointed out that the hospital was actually constructed under the previous regime and that the current government is only working on finishings.

“We must learn to appreciate the works of others and give credit where it’s due. Domasi Hospital was a project initiated by the DPP government, and the Tonse Alliance government should acknowledge that,” Navicha emphasized.

The issue resonated with many MPs, including Zomba Malosa MP Grace Kwelepeta, who questioned how the government can claim to be improving the face of Zomba City while at the same time moving headquarters of some institutions from the city.

This debate brings to light a wider discussion about political accountability and transparency when it comes to projects and initiatives.

While it is natural for governments to want to take credit for the positive changes they bring, it is equally important to recognize the foundational work done by previous administrations.

The DPP has a long history of initiating significant projects and programs in Malawi, and it is understandable that they would want to see their efforts acknowledged and appreciated.

However, the Tonse Alliance government also has a responsibility to highlight the progress they have made and the projects they are currently implementing.

It is crucial for both political parties to find a balance between promoting their own achievements and recognizing the contributions of others.

This not only fosters a spirit of unity and cooperation but also ensures that the country’s development is prioritized above political differences.

In a country like Malawi, where resources are limited and the need for development is urgent, it is imperative that political leaders work together to maximize the impact of projects and initiatives.

By acknowledging the work of previous administrations and building upon their successes, the government can create a more stable and sustainable foundation for future progress.

As the debate continues in Parliament, it is clear that both the DPP and the Tonse Alliance government have important roles to play in shaping the future of Malawi.

By finding common ground and working together towards a shared vision of development, they can ensure that the country’s progress is not hampered by petty politics and rivalries.

Ultimately, it is the people of Malawi who will benefit most from a government that is accountable, transparent, and focused on delivering real results.

By giving credit where it’s due and working together to build a better future, political leaders can set an example for others to follow and inspire hope in the hearts of all Malawians.
