LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)’s senior member and National Director of Logistics aspirant Kenneth Lawson Bwanali has been advised to campaign wisely and avoid mud-slinging for his position he is vying ahead of the party’s elective convention in August this year.

The appeal comes after Bwanali penned DPP’s Administrative Secretary Francis Mphepo of his displeasure over the party’s governors remarks by highlighting who should take positions based on regions.

Bwanali is against the party’s 2018 convention that resolved that certain positions are designated for particular regions and not open to everyone.

For instance, the position of Secretary General (SG) is designated to Central Region while Director of Logistics is for Northern region which Bwanali does not belong to. He is from Eastern Region, Ntcheu district.

Without a proper understanding of the party statue, Bwanali rebukes DPP governors for highlighting positions divisions eventually asking Mphepo to discipline the governors.

DPP governors who made prouncements including Alfred Gangata, Jap Mhango, Chimwemwe Chipungu, Mary Navicha, Chipiliro Mpinganjira, Dr. Mwale, and Dr. Jean Mathanga.

The party mandated the party’s regional governors to campaign with a preordained list of candidates at the forthcoming DPP convention.

“Their directive, issued during a meeting two days prior, mandating DPP regional governors to campaign with a preordained list of candidates at the forthcoming DPP convention, is a gross violation of democratic principles and ethics. This autocratic maneuver not only erodes the foundational pillars of democracy but also signifies a deplorable descent into authoritarianism,” said Bwanali.

There was no immediate comment from Mphepo.

But DPP Central region Vice President Alfred Gangata advised Bwanali to concentrate on campaigning for his position than mudslinging on other party’s members for convention sympathy vote.

“I will not respond to the letter he wrote to party’s Administrative Secretary Mr. Mphepo while my name is mentioned. I can just advise him to concentrate on campaign to get votes during convention,” Gangata told The Maravi Post in an interview on Sunday.

DPP is expected to hold elective convention in August this year ahead of Malawi’s 2025 General Elections in September.
