PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-Former Malawi president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has been hospalised in South Africa where he is seeking medical attention.
Several sources from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services have confirmed to MBC Digital that Mutharika left Malawi on Monday, 2 June 2025, through Chileka International Airport.
Mutharika, the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP’s) torchbearer for the September 16 presidential election, is said to have flown out of the country accompanied by his wife, Gertrude Mutharika.
However, his personal spokesperson, Shadrec Namalomba, has dismissed the reports.
Namalomba says the claims are false and are being spread by people who do not wish the former president well.
The 86-year-old Mutharika has not been seen in public for some time, raising questions about his health and whereabouts.
