LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Deputy Director of Political Affairs, Billy Malata has been arrested in Lilongwe for defamation.
Malata’s arrest comes barely hours after lawyers for Former Reserve Governor, Dalitso Kabambe demanded Malata to retract defamatory remarks made on social media, particularly WhatsApp.
According to sources, Malata has been arrested after another DPP member Alfred Gangata complained to Area 3, police of the later (Malata) similar offence.
Gangata however confirmed to The Maravi Post, behind Malata’s arrest on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
In 2023, Malata held press conferences that insulted DPP leader Peter Mutharika and his followers for allowing the party to be independent.
