Dr. Saulos Chilima’s political journey is one of resilience, betrayal, and sacrifice.

It is disheartening that his words found no support, save for a few who stood by him.

He endured in silence, subjected to torture and victimization for fulfilling his noble duty.

He steadfastly rejected any alliance with MCP, and I vividly recall him telling me, “If people persist, I will request the party to choose someone to pair with Dr. Chakwera.”

Malawians began to label him as someone self-centered and power-hungry.

A song echoed across the nation, urging him to humble himself and let Dr. Chakwera lead the alliance.

After the 2020 elections, no one came to his defense; he was abandoned to fight alone.

Dr. Saulos Chilima’s political journey is one of resilience, betrayal, and sacrifice.

From the moment he opposed the idea of an alliance with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), he faced intense scrutiny and criticism.

Many within his own camp did not support his stance, and instead of standing by him, they allowed him to be vilified.

His refusal to compromise on principles made him a target.

What should have been seen as a bold and independent stance was instead painted as selfishness.

The political landscape became increasingly hostile, and he bore the brunt of the pressure.

His words were twisted, and his intentions were misunderstood.

As public sentiment turned against him, the media and his critics fueled the narrative that he was power-hungry.

This perception was reinforced by a song that urged him to step aside and let Dr. Lazarus Chakwera lead the alliance.

It was a psychological campaign designed to weaken his influence and push him into submission.

Despite all the resistance, the alliance was eventually formed, leading to the historic 2020 election victory.

But after the celebrations died down, Dr. Chilima was left alone.

The same people who had pressured him into the alliance abandoned him.

When he needed support, when his integrity was questioned, and when he faced political challenges, no one came to his defense.

His journey is a lesson in political loyalty—or the lack of it.

It highlights how power dynamics shift, and how those who stand for their beliefs often face the harshest consequences.

Dr. Saulos Chilima’s experience serves as a stark reminder that in politics, today’s hero can quickly become tomorrow’s scapegoat.
