A 35-year old drug dealer Chipiliro Galeta,is to spend the next 30 months in prison, for being found in possession of Cannabis sativa which is in contravention of regulation 4a as read with section 19 of dangerous drug act.
This follows a ruling on January 16,2019, by second grade magistrate George Chimombo of Limbe court.
It was on December 26, 2018 when police officers, received a tip that there is a drug in the village of Mkata.
They visited the place and after a search in his house, they found five bags of Cannabis sativa, each weighing 50 kilogrammes.
In pleaded guilty, when he appeared before court and this prompted state prosecutor Constable Mirrium Semu to pray for a stiffer sentence when passing judgement.
The presiding magistrate George Chimombo concurred with the prosecutor and slapped him with a 30-month custodial sentence to act as a deterrence to would be drug dealers.
Police is urging members of the public to continue giving support to officers, in as far as giving tips is concerned ,on suspected criminals.
The convict comes from Mkata village in Traditional Authority Kuntaja Blantyre.
