LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Author-cum-musician Dyson Mthawanji has returned with a bang by releasing a second single entitled Kwacha.
The song which hit airwaves on Monday, August 1, 2022 encourages love birds to work hard and make money in order to enjoy their romantic love.

Mthawanji who goes by the name Mr Dyson among his music fans has maintained deep reggae as it was the case with his debut track titled Tiye in which he stood shoulder to shoulder with talented female reggae artist Sangie.
In the new song which was premiered on Zodiak and Luntha televisions, Mthawanji has featured Blantyre based Nepman (real name Nepia Longwe) of Na Lero fame.
Speaking in an interview from his base at Likuni-Lilongwe, Mr Dyson said he has maintained romantic love message in his new song saying love is a dominant topic in all people’s chit chats. However, the love message in the song is unique as it is attached to his call to people to work hard so that they make money to cement their love affairs.
The song goes:
Dzukani Magaye kwacha
Tikapushe tipeze kwacha
Chikondi chifuna kwacha
Akaziwa safuna khwanya
Amafuna moyo wabwino
Amafuna zinthu zabwino
Kuti chikondi chikome / Zitengera mthumba mwanumo
Asked whether he is not afraid to release the song at the time the industry has a number of new songs by both veteran and upcoming musicians, Mthawanji said arts is not about competition but creativity.
“If you look around, you will notice that all the latest songs are unique. Everyone is in his or her own lane and there is nobody who is aiming at overtaking the other. That’s what arts is all about. Kwacha song is unique like the case with all other new songs that are enjoying airplay now,” said Mthawanji.
Although music fans seem to enjoy Mthawanji’s music, most of them are still eager to see Mthawanji coming out of studio with a song without featuring an already popular artist. Asked whether he plans to do so, he said he will do a solo song soon but he emphasized that the reason behind climbing on the shoulders of popular urban artists is that “I want to blend old and new school. My music is a combination of old school and urban touches. I have grown up listening to old school music. Therefore, to bring music that will be good for both generations I have to work closely with these urban artists.”
The song’s audio was recorded by Sispense at Matrix Records while the video involved the talented hands of Ron CZ of Red Ink Media Company.
Watching the video, it shows great maturity in as far as video production is concerned in Malawi as compared to early 2000 when musicians had just started shooting music videos.
However, the Kwacha music video shows how the video director was desperate to make sure that all the captured footage was used without leaving anything. This is seen as the acting scenes dominate the music video as compared to the dancing scenes.
Mthawanji said he enjoyed working with Nepman in the song and he described him as a talented artist who is easy and flexible to work with.
“I salute and thank Nepman for his role in this song,” said Mthawanji who was inspired by Balaka musicians such as Lucius Banda, Coss Chiwalo and Charles Sinetre.
Speaking to Maravi Post, Nepman described the collaboration as a master piece. “It was easy for me to work with Mr Dyson Mthawanji. He is talented when it comes to composition,” said Nepman.
Mthawanji who is popular with his writing career dived into music industry early this year when he released his debut song entitled Tiye.
“I’m not looking back in as far as music is concerned. My music fans should expect more good music work from me,” said Mthawanji, adding that he will also continue writing books. According to him, he is working on a fiction book which will hit the shelves before the end of this year.
