The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is hunting for UN known woman for depositing MK100,000 into Malawi Congress Party (MCP) account prior to the May 20, 2014 Tripartite elections which raised so many questions on the intention of the move.
In an advert published in the local press which is also available to the Maravi Post and on its (MEC’s) website signed by Willie Kalonga, MEC’s Chief Election Officer, is requesting the general public on the identity of the woman suspected deposited the money into MCP account using Mrs E.Kulinji’s name at NBS Bank, Chichiri services centre on April 10, 2014.
“MEC is offering a reward of MK100,000 to the first person who gives information that leads to the positive identification of a woman in the picture”, read MEC’s the advert which has a CCTV footage of the woman depositing some cash in the banks.
MEC’s chairperson Maxon Mbendera was suspected to have deposited the money as an MCP sympathizer by sending one of his officers to deposit the money although he refused the allegation saying his position was not supposed to be aligned to any political party.
After MEC verified that the depositor was not one of its officials, the incident was referred to Fiscal Police Department for further investigations which until now no one has been found on the offence hence the advert.
