Epac F.C suspends Coach Leo Mpulula for mediocre performance: Malawi TNM Super League

Epac United have suspended coach Leo Mpulula for among other hot issues poor start to the season.

General Secretary Obed Tasunda Banda confirmed that Mpulula was suspended with effect from 1 June following unsatisfactory results in the first six games the team has played so far in the league.

Mpulula’s deputy, who is the team’s former coach Abbas Makawa has also been appointed caretaker coach until final decision is made on the future of the outspoken coach.

“It is very true that we have suspended the coach [Leo Mpulula] with immediate effect with the reasons that we have played six games but we have just accumulated five points,” Tasuda Banda said.

“The coach is failing to deliver and we will see the way forward.”

He also insisted that the performance of the team demanded the club to take such an action because the coach signed a performance based contract.

“What was in the contract was upon the performance of the team but as of now as you are aware that the team is not performing well so we have decided to give suspension pending investigations,” he said.

“Abbas Makawa will be caretaker of the team until we think otherwise.”

Mpulula said he was yet to be communicated to on the team’s move to suspend him.

“I haven’t been communicated to. I have talked to the chairman there’s nothing I have been told,” Mpulula said.

“It’s a surprise because technically we were supposed to sit down as committee to find out what are the reasons why the team is doing well.”

He insisted that he was just a tip of the iceberg on the problems affecting the team’s performance.

“So if the team is not performing it’s not only because of Leo there are so many reasons.”

Epac are third from bottom with five points from six games having won once and drawn twice and three losses.
