LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Experts have expressed contrary views to a suggestion to reverse the relocation of head offices for various public institutions from Blantyre to Lilongwe.
Former President Peter Mutharika expressed frustration over the relocation of some government institutions from the commercial city to the capital city.
Mutharika, opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader expressed the frustration at the party’s campaign launch at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre yesterday.
Currently, head offices for the Malawi Electoral Commission and Malawi Housing Corporation have been relocated to Lilongwe under the current administration.
However, Mutharika said that once he assumes power in the September 16 elections, he will issue a decree that will reverse such decisions.
In his comment, Joshua Nthakomwa, a development expert, described the proposal as retrogressive in running government institutions.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Nthakomwa said there is a need for government offices to be centralized for logistical purposes.
