2016 has already been an interesting year for fashion, and as we are now in the second quarter when the summer fashions from Europe and America start to appear in stores and on websites that sell boutique clothing and accessories, there are some beautiful looks to start incorporating into our wardrobes. One of the biggest drivers in the seasonal fashion trends is always color, and there is usually a color theme that carries over throughout the year in the form of Pantone’s Color of the Year. This is a color the legendary color institute choose to define the fashions for each year – in clothing and in other areas like interior design – and which fits in to the palettes for each season of that year.

Two 2016 Colors
2016 is an unusual year, however, because it is the first time Pantone have named not one, but two Colors of the Year. While they are designed to be worn together, and mixed in with other hues from their summer palette, these two 2016 defining colors are also beautiful on their own, and versatile enough to wear for everything from business and formal occasions to relaxation and sports. Here we look at the two colors you should be including in your wardrobe through 2016!
Cool Blue Serenity
One of the two Pantone colors for 2016 is a beautiful cool blue called Serenity. Rather than being a baby blue, this is a sophisticated pastel which looks great on both men and women. Serenity looks beautiful in all kinds of fabrics, but for hot weather it looks cool in linen or cotton, and for evening it can look amazing in glossy fabrics like satin and silk. Serenity mixes well with its partner color Rose Quartz to make for gorgeous prints, whether you prefer geometric designs, or pretty florals. Serenity works well with pale neutrals too, like icy silvers. This is a versatile color that suits all ages and can also be incorporated into accessories and eye makeup.
Soft Pink Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz is the second Pantone Color of the Year for 2016. named after the light pink semi precious gem stone, it is a pastel color that is a great compliment to Serenity. As a slightly cooler pink, it doesn’t have the cutesy, baby pink feel of other pink pastels, and has already proven to be as popular in male fashion as for women. It makes a great accent color to use in accessories like ties, scarves, hair accessories, and of course, you can wear jewelry with real rose quartz in it to get the look in your accessories too! Like Serenity, Rose Quartz is an ageless color, that can add some modern style to anybody’s wardrobe.
