BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Fire accident that occurred on Tuesday night has affected about 80 people at Blantyre Market.

Estimated goods of about MK28 million have been reported to have been destroyed by the fire.

According to Black Binya, the chairperson of the market, nothing has been identified yet to establish what really caused the fire although there are speculations that someone used petrol bomb to set the market on fire.

“I was informed around 11 pm last night that there was fire at the market but I failed to be here due to transportation, however goods of about MK28 million have been reported to must have been destroyed by the fire and some money stolen.”

In an interview Samson Mlangeni, who is one of the people who have been affeceted by the accident, he has expressed his grief as all his goods have been burnt to ashes by the fire.

“I had goods of about MK1.8 million in my shop, when I heard about the fire last night I tried to come in time to rescue my goods but I couldn’t because the fire was too much,” he said.

Several people who were there when the fire started have been called for questioning by Blantyre Police and investigations are still underway to determine the real cause of the fire.
