BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-First Lady Gertrude Mutharika has hailed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, for fulfilling their MK300 million pledge to the Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust, describing the donation as a major boost to the organisation’s sanitation drive.
The Bushiris made the pledge during the launch of BEAM’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan in February this year.
Speaking during the cheque handover ceremony held at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Thursday, the First Lady said the contribution will strengthen the Trust’s efforts to improve sanitation and cleanliness in public spaces across the country.
She said BEAM remains committed to promoting better sanitation standards nationwide, adding that the initiative can only succeed through collective responsibility and active citizen participation.
Mutharika further urged Malawians to take part in restoring the country’s image by keeping homes, schools, hospitals, and surrounding communities clean.
On his part,Prophet Bushiri said he was motivated to support the initiative because of the impact BEAM is making in communities.
He added that the Trust’s mission resonates with his broader vision of transforming lives through practical and community-centred interventions.

The organization was established with the vision of creating a cleaner, greener, and healthier nation through environmental conservation initiatives, waste management campaigns, and public awareness programs.
Over the years, BEAM Trust has become widely recognized for mobilizing communities, schools, local councils, and corporate partners to participate in activities such as tree planting, city clean-up exercises, recycling awareness, and environmental education.
