Four men arrested in Lilongwe for illegal possession of medicines

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost) – The Central Region Police Drug Section on Monday arrested four men in Lilongwe for allegedly illegally possessing an assortment of medicines.

 

The suspects were identified as Hanika Chapolondana aged 45, Yoweli Themba aged 26, and Moses Njobvu aged 65.

 

Central region police spokesperson Nolliet Chihana, told The Maravi Post that her office received a tip that the suspects were selling medical drugs in their respective business places within Msambo and Chiwamba trading centers in the district.

 

Upon receipt of the tip, the police accompanied by Pharmacy and Poisons Board officials, found the suspects, seized the said medical drugs and arrested the suspects.

 

Chihana said the medical drugs were seized from the residence of Harrison Kaluma in Chiphwanya Village in Lilongwe, after police was informed that the suspect usually administers and sells the medicines in his house.

 

The police publicist added that the suspect Kaluma was not at his house when the officers and officials from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board raided his house.

 

“The suspects will soon appear before court, to answer the charge of Being Found in Possession of Medical Drugs without Authority, contrary to section 45 (1) as read with section 65 (1) of the Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Act.

 

“The police is appealing to the public to bring forth information regarding the whereabouts of Kaluma, who is still at large”, said Chihana.
