Fresh Chilima’s plane crash inquiry phase two resumes Monday

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the Chikangawa plane crash that claimed the lives of former Vice-President Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC) and eight others says will resume hearing evidence from witnesses on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The second phase of the inquiry, which will run until September 11, will focus on events surrounding the flight on June 10, 2024, when the aircraft crashed in the Chikangawa Forest.

Committee Chairperson Walter Nyamilandu says in a statement seen by Maravi Post that the upcoming phase will be crucial in helping the committee establish what happened on the day of the crash.

He says the committee will hear from airport officials involved in flight planning, meteorology and fuelling, as well as weather experts and pilots with previous experience flying the aircraft.

Nyamilandu says community members who witnessed events around the Nthungwa Forest will also be invited to provide information that could assist the inquiry.

Nyamilandu says the committee may also summon other relevant individuals whose testimony could help shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
