MaraviPost: Contrary to what other quarters have been claiming on social media that vice president the Right Honourable Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima has been stripped off some of his powers, the office of the President and George Mkondiwa Chief Secretary at Republic of Malawi have refuted these allegations.
According to a statement signed by Chief Secretary to government George Mkondiwa who announced about the cabinet reshuffle on 7th April, 2016, His Excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, remains Minister of Defence and Commander-In-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force and the Malawi Police Service.
It further says, Vice President, remains Minister Responsible for Disaster and Relief Management, Public Events and Chairperson for the Civil Service and Public Service Reform Commission.
However the fact that the Vice President does not have direct portfolio responsibility have many believing there is indeed a schism between the President and his vice.
