Govt responds Nyamilandu’s Nsanje Secondary School’ pathetic state with 206 mattresses donation

LILONGWE-(Maravipost)—Residents of Nsanje South West Constituency have welcomed the government’s swift response after their Member of Parliament, Walter Nyamilandu, raised concerns over the shortage of essential supplies at Nsanje Secondary School.

Nyamilandu made the remarks in Parliament on Monday, stating that the Ministry of Education responded within 24 hours to his appeal by releasing 206 mattresses to assist students who had been struggling without proper bedding.

“We are very pleased with the quick response from the Ministry,”

“The provision of 206 mattresses will help many students who have been sleeping without proper support,” Nyamilandu said.

Despite the development, the lawmaker noted that the school is still facing shortages of several essential items.

He therefore called on well-wishers, development partners, and alumni connected to the institution to support ongoing relief efforts.

Nyamilandu also urged stakeholders to align their assistance with the APM strategy, which is guiding the coordination and distribution of relief items in the area to ensure transparency and fairness.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Bright Msaka clarified that the mattresses had already been available in government stores but were diverted during the previous Malawi Congress Party (MCP) administration to Kasungu instead of reaching the intended beneficiaries in Nsanje.

Msaka said the government has now corrected the situation by ensuring the mattresses are delivered to the people of Nsanje South West, where the need is greatest.

Nyamilandu welcomed the development but emphasized that more support is still needed.

“We appreciate the support that has come so far, but there is still a lot that needs to be done,” he said. “We are calling on alumni, development partners, and well-wishers to stand with the people of Nsanje South West Constituency during this time.”
