BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-Minister of Transport and Public Works Minister Jacob Hara has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Nsipe-Liwonde Road construction project, describing it as a significant step towards improving Malawi’s road infrastructure.

Speaking during a site visit in Balaka on Friday, Hara inspected the 55-kilometer stretch, which is being constructed at a cost of $46 million (approximately K97.2 billion), funded by the African Development Bank, European Union, and Malawi Government.

The minister urged the Chinese contractor, Jiangxi Construction Engineering, to deliver quality work and meet the agreed-upon deadline, emphasizing that this is both a government policy and a presidential directive.

“We are building these roads with loans that our children will repay without their consent.

“We must ensure that they inherit good roads that will serve them and their children, embodying progress,” said Hara.

On her part, Member of Parliament(MP ) for Balaka West Bertha Dembele, noted that the project has created employment opportunities for local youth and will improve market access for farmers who have long struggled with transportation challenges.

The project, which began on January 16, 2025, is expected to be completed by July 2026.
